What We Believe / who we are

"What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." - A.W. Tozer

Who We Are

We are simply Christians, nothing more and nothing less. If someone asks us what we are, we simply say “we are Christians.”

We believe the Bible is the inspired word of God, is understandable, and He wants us to read it for ourselves. We try our best to follow it. We have no other creeds or doctrine or official documents or rules or traditions that we have to follow — just the Bible and nothing else.

Like all Christians, we believe in God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

We chose to call our church the Wetzel Road church of Christ because we are located on Wetzel Road and in the Bible, they named churches based on their location. Also in the Bible, one of the names used for churches was “churches of Christ” (Romans 16:16).  We thought it would be good to use a Bible name and not a person or a saint.

We are organized like the original churches. We have elders, deacons, and ministers. We don’t consider our church a denomination. There isn’t a national organization or headquarters or president. We are independent from any other church of Christ, just as the churches were in the first century.

We try to pattern our worship time as closely as possible to that of the original church. We sing, pray, have the Lord's Supper together, and a sermon — that isn’t too long.

We are a friendly bunch with members from all walks of life and from various parts of the world. We all look different, dress different, and talk different, but we are all family.

Jesus said to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” And to “Love your neighbor as yourself.” That’s our goal.
